Going into college, I was initially interested in becoming a physician’s assistant (PA). I changed my major to nursing as a sophomore in college. I currently work as a medical-surgical LNA at Exeter Hospital. I know from working in this field that it is a lot of work and it is a good experience for a new nurse. I would consider working in a medical surgical ward. However, my primary interest is in transport nursing.
Evidence-based practice is when research is applied in order to allow for better practices in the healthcare field. I don’t have much experience with evidence-based practice, but my knowledge consists of understanding that many people are involved in changing various aspects of improvements in healthcare facilities.
Evidence-based practice is an important course to take for nursing as it allows nurses to understand how they can make a change in the healthcare system. It will be effective during our clinical rotations as we may be able to witness and understand how research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement work together. We may even be able to use what we learned in class as students by advocating for patient’s rights and pressing for improvement in lacking areas. In the future, exposure to evidence-based practice techniques will allow me to become a better and more informed nurse. I look forward to what I will learn during this course.
Jordan, you will definitely need a solid practice base in a high-acuity specialty to become a transport nurse – it seems that you are already establishing that base. You’ve identified many important applications for EBP; I hope these further through EBP I, EBP II, and your other courses. It helps answer those “why” questions in clinicals and case studies.
